Moving plants
Moving your home always involves a lot of packing and planning. From furniture and electronics through to clothes and decorations, every aspect of your household needs to be packed and protected in various ways.  This is no different when it comes to transporting plants.

In fact, moving plants can be a little more difficult than boxing up old books, as they are more fragile and in need of more careful treatment.

If you carefully follow these tips on how to transport plants, then moving day should be a stress-free experience.

7 great tips for moving plants

1. Getting Your Plants Prepared For The Big Move
A few weeks prior to the big moving day, be sure to water all your plants sufficiently.  Also, trim any dead leaves away from each plant. The reason is that this will help keep them healthy and minimize the risk of any leaves falling off and into your car or the moving truck during the move.

2. Placement & Positioning Of Plants During Your Removal
Be sure to place your plants in a sturdy box or container.  You can get boxes & containers at a local plant nursery or hardware store. When packing your plants in a box, be sure to place them neatly side-by-side – but be careful not to place plants on top of each other.  That is because this can cause damage to their delicate leaves. Make sure to also place delicate plants, such as indoor Orchids or Peace Lilies, in a separate box. If you’ve opted for our packing services, our team of expert packers with Toowoomba Removals will see that your plants are handled with the utmost care and attention.

3. Packaging For Your Plants Properly
Note this: if your plants have not been potted yet, it’s a good idea to do this prior to the move.  This is because doing so will minimize any dirt spilling from underneath and getting into your car or truck. You can pick up some great, affordable ceramic planter pots from Major retail stores such as Bunnings, Kmart, Big W or your local plant nursery. However, if you’re using ceramic pots, be sure to place some newspaper or bubble wrap in between the pots for extra padding.  That is so that they don’t crack or break during the move. Toowoomba Removals can provide any packing materials required.

4. Moving Smaller Plants VS Larger Plants
Be aware that whether you have small or large plants, indoor or outdoor plants, we suggest moving them all with the same amount of care. When moving large plants, be especially sure that they fit comfortably in the vehicle you are using to move them. Whatever you do, try not to squish tall, large plants in the front seat or boot of a vehicle if they don’t fit. Often, with a care, the best place is behind the passenger seat on the floor.  That is so that the stems and leaves have a little more room. Otherwise, our removals staff will transport your plants with great care in our moving trucks – and we will be taking extra precaution with their delicate leaves.

5. Safe Transportation Of Your Plants To Your New Destination
When transporting your plants, be sure that they are placed securely in the vehicle you are using to transport them.  You can place them either on the floor of the passenger seat, or in the back seat wedged between other items, so they remain secure and less likely to topple over during transport. You can also ask a friend to hold the box of plants on their lap while you drive (or vice versa!). Always remember that our Toowoomba Removals staff can take care of this for you.

6. Keep Your Plants Cool When Moving
During the hot summer season, be sure to turn on the air conditioning or roll down your windows when transporting your plants.  Doing this will give them some fresh, cool air. Hot plants are not happy plants, and you don't want them to die or get injured during your move.

7. Keep Your Plants Hydrated To Survive The Move
Once you have arrived at your new home or destination, we suggest watering any plants that are especially delicate or prone to dehydration.

Toowoomba Removals will happily provide plant packing services.  We will take absolute care of your living plants.  It all comes down to precision in how we move your precious plants for you. If you have any questions regarding our packing and moving services, simply give us a call right away.
